Calgary police responded to reports of a single vehicle crash around 12:30 a.m. Saturday in the 100 block of Bermuda Drive NW While assisting with the crash a member of the Calgary Fire Department was pulled from the vehicle as the driver attempted to flee from the the scene. a CPS release said. The firefighter was taken to hospital with minor injuries. Calgary Police then deployed a HAWCS helicopter to locate and track the driver in the stolen vehicle. The vehicle was located and officers arrested a suspect and confirmed the vehicle was stolen. Charges are pending against the suspect and the investigation is ongoing. Insp. Jeff Penoyer of Calgary police’s real-time operations center said the driver showed little concern for the safety of the public or first responders. “In incidents like these, our priority is always to ensure public safety first,” Pennoyer said. “The driver showed little regard for the safety of both the public and our fellow first responders, and as such, we have dedicated resources from across the Service to the safe resolution of this incident.” [email protected]
