The alleged killer used a fake passport to fly to Costa Rica from Newark Airport on May 18 – a day after Austin police issued an arrest warrant for her – and settled in the beach hostel.
Armstrong arrived in the new country with long red hair, but cut it to the shoulders and dyed it dark brown. She also had a bandage on her nose and “bruises under her eyes” from a reported incident on a surfboard, Filla said.

Armstrong had attended many yoga classes, which Filla believed were to “improve her profession to teach a particular type of yoga,” which included surfing.
“We think she was staying at the hostel to really make her money go down,” he added.

“With these types of resources limited, he was trying to establish himself,” he said. “Being in this hostel – this is really for people who travel independently. “You know they’re trying to build some kind of relationship with people in their dorm.”
Despite her best efforts to disguise herself and start a different life, Armstrong was unable to escape her alleged crimes.
U.S. military officials, along with Homeland Security Investigations, the State Department’s Diplomatic Security Service, and local authorities, located the alleged killer and arrested him.
He is due to be deported to the United States to face charges of Wilson’s murder on May 11.
“He will now face justice in the hope of bringing some sort of closure to the Wilson family who have fallen victim to this incident,” Filla said.
Colin Strickland, 34, Armstrong’s close friend, had a fight with Wilson and had secretly gone out on the day of the shooting to meet her while she was visiting Austin, San Francisco, for an upcoming fight in Waco, officials said.
Wilson was found shot to death at a friend’s house where Strickland had left her. A jeep that appears to be Armstrong’s was seen in surveillance footage outside.
Police questioned Armstrong, but released her without charge before continuing to serve, officials said.
