Dr. Sally Otto, an evolutionary biologist and professor at the University of British Columbia, told the Evolution Conference in Ohio last week that the BA.5 variant is circulating in more communities again and predicts that the third wave will peak sometime in next month.

Dr. Brian Conway, medical director of the Vancouver Center for Infectious Diseases, said there has been some talk about Canada following the trend of western Europe with an increase in cases and more evidence of COVID found in wastewater. Story continues below ad “My view is that there will be a bit of an uptick if we’re not careful,” he said. “Get your shots, wash your hands, wear a mask, stay home if you’re sick. He said cases in the province were not increasing at a “dramatic level” but the strain on the health care system was “significant”.
