Due to the damage from the floods of November 2021 and the ongoing reconstruction works, sections of the highway are two lanes in each direction. Drivers are encouraged to adjust their travel plans to avoid rush hour or to consider using Highway 3 as an alternative route between inland and the Lower Mainland. Drivers on other routes across the province should also expect higher-than-average traffic volumes and plan accordingly. General tips for a safe trip include: – allowing extra time to get to your destination due to more people on the streets. – make sure your vehicle is ready to drive with a full gas tank or charged battery by checking engine oil, washer fluid, lights and tires, including the spare. – food and water packaging for passengers and pets; – planning breaks in rest areas, which can be identified through: – tracking for motorcyclists and road sharing with cyclists and other users; – observe all the indicated speed limits and drive carefully, especially during bad weather. – leaving the phone alone while behind the wheel. – ensuring that all passengers use seat belts at all times. and – never drive under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
