Peter Gibson has said he no longer believes Boris Johnson is the best man to lead the country. Mr Gibson was a Parliamentary Private Secretary at the Department for International Trade. In his resignation letter he said: “Three years ago this week in our party leadership election I decided to support you, believing that you are the best person for our party, our country and for Darlington. As a gay MP this should have been a liberating, enjoyable experience, but instead because of the damage done to our party for failing to include trans people in the ban on conversion therapy, it was a humbling experience and showed me the enormous damage that has been done so pointlessly after years of hard work by many to rebuild the damage of Section 28. “I am deeply saddened to see so many people of principle leave government and, while I wish it were not so, I feel that my personal integrity, loyalty to my constituents and our party means that I must do the same.” .
