CHATHAM – The woman found dead in a Chatham home during a welfare check by Chatham-Kent police has been identified as Cynthia Sitzes in court documents.

Officers found the body of the 44-year-old woman at a residence on Bedford Street at noon on Monday, police said. Stephen William Thompson, 42, is charged with first-degree murder in her death. He made a brief court appearance on Tuesday and was remanded in custody pending a virtual appearance on July 13. Court documents also reveal Thompson has been placed under a no-contact order barring him from contacting four people. There is a publication ban on any evidence discussed at bail hearings. Investigators have not released the dead woman’s name, cause of death or relationship to the accused. No further information has been released at this time to protect the integrity of the investigation, police said. Anyone with information should contact Const.
