Christopher Cruz, 30, returned to the store where he allegedly stole items earlier in the day, police said, prompting the clerk to ask him to leave. Cruz allegedly assaulted the worker, WFLD reported. Unbeknownst to the suspect, a man with a third degree black belt in jiu-jitsu saw the whole thing go down and went to break it up.

#CHICAGO He attacked a 711 operator so I jumped in and took him to the ground and did a gift wrap taught in the art of Jiu-Jitsu until the police showed up and arrested him. Alhamdulilah aka I thank God for keeping me safe and guiding me to learn the art of Gracie Jiu-Jitsu. *đđHereâs a little story about the incident, I was being taken out by my kids and a lady came in complaining about the person in this video. I look out and her friend was driving around the wrack less trying to hit him with the car and he was banging his hand on her car and teasing her and saying crazy things. I wasnât sure if they knew each other because she seemed to be busy with herself too. I told her to jump in the car and drive away. She hit me for telling her that. He then took some windshield fluid and slathered it on my car in front trying to open it. I downloaded it. Then I called the cops on both the girls and the guy. I stood back minding my own business. Then the guy came at me saying crap and then he said youâre Russian and he tried to bend me trying to pretend he was going to shake me and I stepped back and didnât engage. He then went into 711 messing with the operator as I stood outside just watching and waiting for the cops, who I called a few minutes ago. ïżŒ Then I saw him waving at the 711 Employee, thatâs when I jumped in to check on him until the cops came. I went live to make sure nothing happened and that I had witnesses to have my back. We live in the age of technology why not use it for good. People can learn from this video that violence is not the solution. Train properly, as I have, and the world can become a better place. I never hurt the guy and I wish him the best and hope he turns his life around for the better. Maybe seeing this video will be a wake-up call for him. The cops would probably come in and taser or pepper spray him to arrest him. What if he hurt the employee really badly and then got locked up for a long timeïżŒïżŒ. Someone else might be killing him and he wouldnât be there for his children. He could have been hit by a car the way he was acting. I really wish him the best and maybe we can get some food in the future. This is another reason why people should not drink alcohol or drugs. I donât drink because of my faith, Iâm a Muslim and thatâs why Iâve been so calm because of my faith and my 20+ years of teaching and training Jiu Jitsu. It wasnât easy for me to get away because they were driving with no injuries and they almost hit my car a few times. A lot to say. ïżŒ #Alhamdulillah #usa #bjj #jiujitsu #redzovic #redzovicvideo #crime #bosna #bosnian

âAs soon as I saw him connect and hit the clerk in the head, I jumped in, grabbed him, put him down, flattened him like a pancake, and then tied him up like a pretzel in a position called âGift Wrappingâ or âTwisting Arm Control â, Idriz Redzovic told the agency.
Rendzovich, who owns a jiu-jitsu academy in the cityâs Lincoln Park neighborhood, had just bought drinks for his children when he first noticed Cruz harassing patrons outside the store.
Rendzovich said once he saw the alleged thief hitting the employee, he went back inside.
We apologize, but this video failed to load.
The black belt recorded parts of last monthâs incident on Facebook Live. Footage shows him pinning the suspect down for nearly 20 minutes until officers arrived.
Cruz can be heard pleading with Rendzovic to let him go, but that didnât happen.
âNo, Iâm not letting you go,â Rendzovic says in the video. âYou were harassing those girls and then you turned on that 7-Eleven employee.â
Cruz was charged with two misdemeanor counts of retail theft and battery.
