Chelsea are at loggerheads over a potential move for Manchester United superstar Cristiano Ronaldo. According to SunSport’s Andy Dillon, new Blues chairman Todd Boehly is a big fan of Ronaldo but now needs to convince manager Thomas Tuchel to follow him. Tuchel and Boehly are set to discuss whether to continue with a firm bid for the five-time Ballon d’Or winner or invest elsewhere. The German manager insists Manchester City star Raheem Sterling and defenders are his priority after losing key centre-backs this summer. But the American owner is keen to sign a permanent fixture to kick-start his regime after taking over last month in a £4.25bn deal. Meanwhile, Chelsea and City are close to agreeing a transfer fee for Sterling. Negotiations between the Premier League giants have been ongoing but progress has now been made, according to Sky Sports. A deal is imminent for the winger and the deal will be completed if he can agree personal terms with the Blues. If that is the case, the former Liverpool star will likely earn more at Stamford Bridge than he currently brings to City. And Chelsea hope to secure Juventus star Matthijs de Ligt or City ace Nathan Ake this week. According to the Evening Standard, De Ligt and Ake are the two players the Blues are in talks with. The west Londoners had swap deals involving Jorginho and Timo Werner for the Juve centre-back rejected by the Serie A giants, who are adamant they value him at £103m. If Chelsea fail in their pursuit of the Netherlands international, then they may look to re-sign Ake. However, Chelsea could be in for a transfer blow as Bayern Munich could land De Ligt’s signature. The Blues are said to have had a bid of £34m plus Werner or Pulisic rejected by Juve. And the west Londoners now look likely to miss out entirely as Bayern eye a deal for the former Ajax star. According to Sky Sports reporter Florian Plettenberg, De Ligt has his eyes set on a move to the Allianz Arena after talks with manager Julian Nagelsmann and sporting director Hasan Salihamidzic. Plettenberg tweeted: “Bayern want him and De Ligt wants to go to Bayern! Talks with Nagelsmann and Salihamidzic impressed him! “Negotiations between Bayern/Juve have started. Discussions are good. “But he is very expensive. The transfer fee is expected to be between 60 million euros [£51.6m]-80 million euros[£69m]”
