The Canadian Forces Maritime Security Team is en route to the Okanagan as it prepares for what’s called defensive navigation and tactical training. “We are currently towing a fleet of defense vessels with us to train for potential deployment,” says spokesman Lt. Gen. Wilson Ho. The Maritime Security Group transports four defense vessels from the CFB. Esquimalt to the Kelowna Yacht Club where they will establish a base of operations for their exercises. The public may see an increased military presence at Okanagan Lake this Tuesday and Wednesday. Ho says the public is encouraged to stop by and say hello. “Members of the public, if they have questions or are just curious, are welcome to come and have a look.”

The team will also have a booth at the Yacht Club to recruit new team members Tuesday and Wednesday between 3 and 5 p.m. The Canadian Forces Marine Safety Team will be across Okanagan Lake and will make stops in Vernon and Penticton as well.
