The British number one triumphed in straight sets 6-4 6-1 6-0 on Center Court in just under two hours. Norrie will next face American Tommy Paul – marking the first time a Briton has reached the men’s singles fourth round in five years. It was also the first time Norrie, 26, had advanced to the last 16 at any of the four Grand Slams. The South African-born left-hander produced his best tennis on the main court at the All England Club and was delighted with his impressive win over Johnson. He said: “I couldn’t be happier, especially with all my friends and family watching. I enjoyed the game today and it was a little less stressful for my team! “I love playing at this level, I enjoy the process of it all and I enjoy improving. My team and I all have the same goals and it’s been a lot of fun. I want to keep going and check more boxes.” He continued: “I’m as fit as I can be, I’m training as hard as I can. I’m moving better, I feel a lot better on the pitch and as I say, I’m as fit as I can be.” Norrie took the opening set 6-4 after an excellent break of serve to wrap things up – and started as the better player having won two break points. The Briton hit 80% of his first serves and managed just four unforced errors during the second set, and took advantage of Johnson’s drop in form with the fourth round in hand. In another triumph for Team GB on Thursday, British number four Heather Watson reached the last 16 of Wimbledon for the first time in her career. Watson said she was “so happy” to reach the fourth round of Wimbledon, adding that the crowd helped her get over the line in the end. On Saturday, Britain’s Katie Boulter takes on France’s Harmony Tan in the third round of the women’s singles, while Liam Broady takes on Australia’s Alex De Minaur, who knocked out fellow Briton Jack Draper. Earlier this week, two of Britain’s biggest tennis stars Andy Murray and Emma Raducanu were knocked out of the tournament in the second round.
