Boris Johnson has ruled out calling early general elections amid polls showing declining support for the Conservative Party. An exclusive poll by The Independent found that the Tories would be defeated if a vote were called now, with Labor still out of the majority but the prime minister possibly losing his seat. Sources close to Mr Johnson have ruled out calling early elections this year, saying the cut and candidacy at a time when the ruling majority in the Commons would not be credible to voters. “The prime minister has won a majority of 80 seats, the people want us to use it to complete the vote, instead of having another vote,” said one. Meanwhile, an attempt by the Tories to prevent Labor MP Harriet Harman from chairing an inquiry into whether or not the prime minister misled parliament over Partygate has failed.

Male MPs try the “spread vest” of menopause – and can not stand the heat

The male MPs tried on vests that simulated the feeling of hot flashes at menopause – and they could not stand the heat. Attending an awareness-raising event on the surge in demand for hormone replacement therapy (HRT) amid widespread shortages, politicians – including Wes Streeting, Stephen Kinnock and Nick Thomas-Symonds – wore warm clothes which are said to mimic the annoying and often debilitating symptom. “It is very unpleasant and a heat that wraps,” said the shadow health secretary after trying on the vest. “I do not know how you would go about living. I look forward to removing it. “ Alisha Rahaman Sarkar30 June 2022 07:13 1656569324

The Tory MP is attacking Sadiq Khan over the Met police

The British Police Secretary claimed that Sadiq Khan should “share the responsibility” for the slip of the Metropolitan Police in special measures. Kit Malthouse suggested that, as commissioner of police and crime (PCC) for power, the mayor of London should “consider his position”. But four of the six police forces currently on special measures have conservative PCCs. The elected role was created by the Tory-Lib Dem coalition government to replace the police councils previously tasked with overseeing the regional powers’ finances and holding them accountable. MPs “should not bring babies to the Commons”

A cross-party review has suggested that MPs should not be allowed to bring babies into the House of Commons during debates. The report came as a scandal erupted when Labor member Stella Crazy was told not to bring her newborn son to work during the debate. According to the committee, MPs should not bring babies to the main hall or the Westminster Hall if they want to “observe, start, speak or intervene in the process,” the Guardian reported. Raab is on fire because he spent 1 1 million on private jets

Dominic Raab has spent more than 1 1m on private jets in just nine months as foreign minister instead of using regular flights, Labor claims. “The deputy prime minister is also under fire for taking up to nine government officials on trips – wasting money during a cost-of-life crisis,” the party said in a statement. “There are serious questions for the government about how these extortion costs were exhausted and what we are paying for,” said Angela Reiner, deputy Labor leader. “The public will want to know if they are paying the bill for the expensive hospitality of the Tories ministers on the flight, while working families are struggling to put food on their own tables.” Alisha Rahaman Sarkar30 June 2022 06:32 1656566222

Search Partygate to wait until the fall

Prime Minister Boris Johnson will not face the crisis of the commission he is investigating if he lied to parliament about Downing Street parties until the autumn. However, no decision has yet been taken on whether the Ombudsman’s oral inquiry hearings will take place in public and in front of television cameras. The Commons voted in April for a committee inquiry into whether Mr Johnson’s repeated denials that Covid lockdown rules had been violated at No. 10 amounted to contempt of parliament.
