A hearse leaves Rotary Park’s Sunshine Camp with the body of a person who drowned in the park on Canada Day. (VOCM) Investigators recovered the body of a 19-year-old woman from the water at Rotary Park’s Sunshine Camp. The body was found before 9am. this morning by divers who were scouring Healey’s Pond late Friday night. The RNC completed a search this morning in the Sunshine Park area after locating a swimmer who was reported missing yesterday afternoon. The 19-year-old was dead when she was found. Others tried to offer help but to no avail. The RNC, St. Louis Regional Fire Department. John’s, Sea-Force Diving, Portugal Cove-St. Philip’s volunteer firefighters, Rovers Search and Rescue and City of St. John’s responded, with divers assisted by a speedboat searching the waters late at night and again this morning when the body was recovered. No other details about the circumstances of the tragedy have been released. The park, meanwhile, was expected to remain closed until noon today.
