Seven allegations of breach of trust and two counts of fraud were approved Wednesday against Cpl. Peter Leckie of the Surrey RCMP Excerpt. Leckie’s alleged misconduct took place over a period of almost seven years, from January 2014 to October 2020, and involved three different individuals, Surrey RCMP said in a press release. According to the excerpt, the dean is accused of using his position to “capture information and communicate with members of the public” for the purpose of establishing close relations. “These are worrying allegations,” he said. Comm. Brian Edwards, Surrey RCMP chief of staff, said in a statement. “Our Professional Standards Unit is committed to thorough research and we urge anyone with additional information to contact us.” Leckie, who started working with the squad in January 2010, has been suspended for pay. Now that he has been charged, the authorities have said they will “participate in the process to proceed with the suspension without pay”. The Prosecutor’s Office of BC said the charges were approved by an experienced Crown lawyer with no connection to Leki. No further details are expected to be released while the case is in court. The Surrey RCMP posted a photo of Leckie Wednesday and asked any witness for his alleged misconduct to call the Professional Standards Unit at 604-599-7887.
