The shooting occurred around 6:30 a.m. Sunday at a Subway restaurant near a gas station in downtown Atlanta. Police said the man was arguing with the two workers before shooting them. “It was a very tragic situation that did not have to happen,” Atlanta Deputy Chief of Police Charles Hampton Jr. told reporters Monday. He said a 36-year-old man believed to be the perpetrator was arrested Sunday night after someone who did not identify himself to police gave them information. Hampton said police did not immediately disclose the name of the suspected perpetrator due to the ongoing investigation. The woman who died was 26 years old. The other woman, 24, remained in critical condition Monday, Hampton said. The injured woman’s 5-year-old son was in the restaurant at the time and Hampton was mourning the trauma this child would have to deal with. “It is frustrating to have a 26-year-old woman who is no longer with us,” said Hampton. “I am disappointed that we had a man with a gun who decided that this was the answer to resolving a sandwich conflict.” “It just breaks my heart to know that someone has the audacity to point a gun and shoot someone for so little mayonnaise on a sandwich,” restaurant co-owner Willie Glenn told WSB-TV.
