A Texas woman suspected of fatally shooting professional cyclist Anna Moria Wilson at a home in Austin has been arrested in Costa Rica, the U.S. military said Thursday. Kaitlin Marie Armstrong, 34, was arrested Wednesday at a hostel on Santa Teresa Beach in Provincia de Puntarenas, the Marshals Service said in a statement. Armstrong was expected to return to the United States, where she is facing murder charges, the agency said. “The Marshals service raised Kaitlin Armstrong’s investigation into a major case early in this investigation, which probably played a key role in her arrest after a 43-day run,” said Susan Pamerlo, a U.S. military officer in West Texas. Wilson, 25, was found dead on May 11, and Austin police issued a murder warrant for Armstrong on May 19. Authorities say Armstrong sold her vehicle May 13 and then flew from Austin to Houston shortly after authorities questioned Wilson’s death that day. He then flew to New York before using a fake passport to fly from Newark, New Jersey to San Jose, Costa Rica on May 18, the agency said. Wilson, a competitive pebble and mountain biker and Vermont native known as “Mo”, was in Austin for a cycling event. According to an affidavit, Wilson had previously dated Armstrong’s friend, cyclist Colin Strickland, who has worked with investigators and is not a suspect. According to the affidavit, Armstrong’s SUV appeared in a surveillance video outside the house where Wilson was found shot to death.
