Goram, who won 43 caps for the national team and five league titles at Ibrox, recently revealed he had been diagnosed with terminal oesophageal cancer. He said he was given about six months to live by doctors after reducing the possibility of chemotherapy, which could extend his life by an additional three months. “Rangers are deeply saddened to announce today the death of our legendary goalkeeper Andy Gorham after a short battle with cancer,” the club said in a statement. “In a fan poll in 1999, he was voted the best Rangers goalkeeper of all time, and after his retirement he was still a regular at Ibrox on match days and continued to wow the crowd with some memorable performances in legendary groups. “The thoughts of the managers, management, players and staff are with Andy’s family today and they would ask that their privacy be respected at this sad time.” Andy Goram, photo last November. He made 260 appearances for Rangers between 1991 and 1998, where he was simply known as “The Goalie”, winning five league titles, three Scottish Cups and two League Cups. He won 43 caps for Scotland and was their first choice goalkeeper at both Euro 92 and Euro 96. After Rangers, he played for Notts County, Sheffield United, Motherwell, Manchester United, Hamilton, Coventry, Oldham, Queen’s South and Elgin. Gorham was part of the Manchester United team that won the Premier League in 2001, making two appearances for the Red Devils. At Queen of the South he became the first player to complete Scotland’s medal set when he claimed a Challenge Cup medal to go along with Premiership, Scottish Cup and League Cup winners’ prizes.
