The shooting occurred outside the Mix Downtown nightclub at 16th and L Streets. A police spokesman, Officer Ryan Wu, said the dead victim is an adult male. According to KCRA 3 News, the victim’s family identified him as Greg Najee Grimes, 31, who worked as an assistant football coach and teacher at Inderkum High School. He has a son. “We want the world to know what many have lost today,” the family told the station. “A friend, a coach, a teacher, a grandson, a nephew, a cousin, a son and most of all a father.” The other four victims are in stable condition at area hospitals, Wu said. The Sacramento Bee spoke with a patron of the club who said he heard the gunshots there: “Someone said they were fireworks, but I knew they weren’t fireworks.” Three months ago, another shooting in downtown Sacramento killed six and injured 12. Police said on social media that they were conducting a homicide investigation and asked the public with any video evidence to come forward. This is a developing story. Check back for updates.
